NEWS: J. Cole Changes Born Sinner LP Release Date To Compete w/ Kanye West

j-cole-2013-650-430This is pretty interesting.  So it looks like young Cole decided he wasn’t going to take a backseat to Kanye West’s Yeezus album which was recently announced that it would be hitting shelves on June 18.  Cole’s original release date for Born Sinner was set for the following week on June 25 but the North Carolina spitter decided he wanted to creatively go head to head with Mr. West.  Billboard recently got the exclusive statement from Cole and you can check out what he had to say on the matter below.

Yesterday (May 20), J. Cole announced he’s moving up the release date of his upcoming album, “Born Sinner” to June 18. Initially, his sophomore album was slated for July. Coincidentally, June 18 is also the day that Kanye West debuts his sixth solo studio album, “Yeezus.”

“Kanye West is one of the greatest artists of our generation. Which is exactly why I’m moving my release date up,” he tweeted.

Soon after the announcement, J. Cole told Billboard’s The Juice that not only was he aware of Kanye West’s “Yeezus” release date, but once someone confirmed it, he decided to move up “Born Sinner” to June 18 to compete. “Instantly the lightbulb [turned on]… it got real. I made one phone call to somebody that would know, just to make sure first. As soon as I got it confirmed, I was like, ‘Yo…’ The idea hit me instantly: ‘You got to go to that date,'” he said.

“I’m not going to sit [here]… I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album. It’d be like, ‘Oh and J.Cole dropped too, a week later.’ Nah. I’m going to go see him on that date. He’s the greatest. So it’s like, I’m a competitor by nature so it was instant, it wasn’t even a thought,” the Roc Nation artist continued.

J.Cole’s competitive move is testament to how strongly he believes in himself and his full-length opus: “It’s a definite statement about how I feel about my album, which is confident.”

Going up against Kanye West — and Mac Miller’s “Watching Movies With the Sound Off” album which also comes out on June 18 — is strictly competitve for J. Cole and far from anything but so. “At the same time, let’s not forget this is Kanye West. He bets 100, 1,000, whatever the perfect is. His track record is flawless. I’m only expecting an incredible album from him,” he said.

“But I know what I have.”

ARTWORK: Kanye West – Yeezus | New Air Yeezy II Colorway

yeezus-official-artworkKanye West’s new album cover artwork was finally revealed.  This looks pretty interesting to say the least.  It appears to be a melted down Jesus Piece or some sort of distorted gold object with a simple piece of red tape that reads Yeezus.  Last night Kanye took over SNL and delivered two new songs with “Black Skinhead” and “New Slaves”.  Ye’s new album is now available for pre order on his official website and will be available to purchase on June 18 which is the mysterious date he dropped for fans via his twitter account a few weeks back.

In other news, Kim Kardashian took to her instagram and previewed a new Red colorway of the Air Yeezy II’s that Mr. West wore during his performance on SNL.  Check out a sneak peek below.

VIDEO: Kanye West Premieres “New Slaves” w/ A Special Preview In 66 Locations

Can’t lie, every time Kanye West comes back he just steps the bar up that much higher.  Who would have thought that something like this would have been possible?  Ye and company went out to 66 locations and set up shop across Los Angeles, Toronto, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, London, Paris, Berlin and Sydney.  That’s a lot of highly quality projectors that I’m sure came at a pretty penny.  What a way to step back in the spotlight though right?  Don’t forget, Yeezus will be closing out SNL’s season finale tonight and I’m sure the G.O.O.D. Music head honcho will have something else special up his sleeve to share.

After 2 no shows. One on 27th & 6th & another a F.I.T. andddddd missing the premiere at Columbus Circle. I met 2 cool dudes waiting at FIT & decided to split the cab fare 3 Ways & made it JUST in time for the last showing. We watched the premiere & was advised to wait 15 minutes for the truck come around. “It would be worth wait we were told” While speculating I asked some folks what they thought was going to happen. The truck pulls around for another encore & we’re expecting Kanye to perform…. The video plays….. It Finishes. And nothing happens…. Kanye was on the corner of 5th Ave…. Watching us as we’re watching him on the wall & gracefully disappears into the city in his Maybach…..

VIDEO: Kanye West – Where The Lonely Kids Go When The Bell Rings | Fan Made Documentary

This is a dope 45 minute fan made documentary composed of different footage a lot of fans may have already seen but also has some cool unseen visuals too.  Take a look at this well put together project on one of the greatest hip hop artists to ever do it.  It’s all in the editing and this individual made it happen with interview pieces, old mobile video, audio snippets and more.  Not going to lie, I miss the old days when Kanye first came out.  I still can remember the first time I heard his music and saw his “Through The Wire” video on BET.  Kanye was the first artist I ever had an itching to go see live and I’m glad I caught his act before he massively blew up right when The College Dropout released.

VIDEO: Kanye West Walks Into A Pole & Confronts Paparazzi

Kanye West was recently out and about in Beverly Hills when a group of Paparazzi attempted to capture him and girlfriend Kim Kardashian ducking into a restaurant.  The only problem is instead of ducking and avoiding snaps from the paprazzi, Mr. West bowed right into a metal stop sign and immediately became enraged.  As shown in the clip above, West runs into pole and eventually makes his way back out from the restaurant to confront some pap’s who were still outside.  You can clearly hear Kanye shouting for some privacy and demanding the paparazzi stop taking photos.

NEWS: Kanye West Announces Special Event For June 18th

kanye-westTaking to twitter, the G.O.O.D. music general simply tweeted “June Eighteen”.  What could it be?  A new album?  Special collaboration?  Who knows?  What can be sure is that Kanye West is one of the few artists out there that can set things off and send the internet into a frenzy with stunts like this.  Yeezy deleted everything in his twitter history and all that remains is this one recent post.  Remember, Yeezy will also be performing and closing out SNL’s 38th season later this month on the 18th.  Looks like it’s going to indeed be a cruel summer.
