Elliott Wilson caught up with Just Blaze backstage at Converse’s FADER Fort during SXSW. Skee TV cameras were rolling as Elliott shared his fondness and respect for the super producer. Just tells a fascinating story about how he met the guy who wrote Bobby Glen’s “Sounds Like A Love Song”, which he sampled for Jay-Z’s “Song Cry”, while the guy was driving him somewhere in LA and recognized his name on the paperwork. He also speaks on other artists that he’s sampled that he later met or spoke to and how they they benefited from the proceeds of the Hip-Hop tracks that resulted. Finally he speaks on the influence of esteemed composer Galt McDermot and some of the many artists that sampled his work.
