Miss Info catches up with New York’s Nas at an industry event hosted by Hennesy and gets the Queens native’s thoughts on the mixing of art and music and Hip Hop’s current fascination with upscale pieces. Nas kicks some knowledge and lets fans know the two worlds have always been synonymous with one another and that the people in the streets personify and embody the lifestyle. Moving forward, Miss Info gets the opportunity to get Nas’ take on Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse. The Queensbridge MC plays it cool and almost brushes off the question by simply replying, “wow.” Nas makes it clear he’s happy about where Hip Hop is right now and also clarifies he was not offended by Kendrick’s “King Of New York” line.
CTE’s latest addition to the squad, West Coast rapper YG, drops a new trailer for “My Nigga” which is featured on the recent in-house compilation Boss Yo Life Up Gang mixtape. The short clip flashes images of YG getting picked up by the police, being questioned, thrown behind bars, riding around in a lowrider and having drinks with the homies and smoking loud. From the looks of things, there may be some sort of cinematic concept behind this one with its underlining message revolving around friendship. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Dizzy Wright serves up a new track titled “World Peace” off his anticipated The Golden Age mixtape dropping August 19. The Las Vegas native takes command over the mellow production courtesy of Rikio and drops introspective rhymes about his dreams and ambitions while encouraging listeners to also live better lives together in harmony. The positive track also sports just enough weed references and does a good job of not coming off too cheesy or preachy. Check out Dizzy Wright’s latest leak “World Peace” below.
Juicy J keeps the visuals coming with “Yet” as the release date for his new Stay Trippy LP approaches its release date of August 27. The Taylor Gang artist goes in over an ominous sounding instrumental packed with hard-hitting bass and keeps the visual simple with the rapper rocking a hooded sweatshirt in front of a few television screens with no signal.
Meek Mill takes to the microphone and records a tribute song titled “Lil Nigga Snupe” and dedicates it to his deceased protege. The MMG rapper drops introspective rhymes and shares his pain over losing Snupe to senseless street violence. Meek Mill even contemplates the idea of giving up all his fortune and fame in order to bring Snupe back from the dead. Take a listen to Meek’s venting session as he goes to work with his signature sped up flow over a high energy track equipped with heavy bass.
This didn’t come out probably the way everyone thought and anticipated it would. Meek Mill finally drops his Hype Williams directed visual for “Levels.” The music video comes off as one long 4 minute trailer as images of familiar products from brands like Ciroc, Rolls Royce, Rose champagne and Beats By Dre flash across the screen with the occasional gorgeous model in between. In fact, MMG rapper Meek Mill hardly even makes an appearance in the music video for his own hit song.
G.O.O.D. Music artist Big Sean caught up with Mikey Fresh and gave details on how “Control” came together with Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica. After running into issues over clearing the song’s sample, Sean shares why he decided to liberate the controversial track and speaks on its significance in Hip hop. Big Sean tells Vibe TV “Control” sparked an interest in lyricism in the game and clarifies that though he could have, he decided not to go back and adjust his verse after K. Dot submitted his feature. The Detroit native also shares that he believes Hip Hop should be competitive and says that after hearing Kendrick’s verse he was never worried about any of the mentioned rappers in his verse becoming offended. Before calling it a wrap, Sean also admits that he feels his verse on “Control” was “harder” than Kendrick’s.
Producer 9th Wonder and Young Guru debate over their views for Kendrick Lamar’s big verse on Big Sean’s “Control.” Young Guru takes the opportunity to compare the TDE artist’s “chess move” to the moment skateboard Tony Hawk through down the 900 at the X-Games. 9th and Guru also touch on the verse’s significance in Hip Hop and point of Kendrick’s craftiness to slip his name in among Hip Hop’s elite like JAY Z, Nas, Eminem, and Andre 3000. Check out the lighthearted and at times comical conversation between the two below.
