After running into issues over clearing the song’s sample, Sean shares why he decided to liberate the controversial track and speaks on its significance in Hip hop. Big Sean tells Vibe TV “Control” sparked an interest in lyricism in the game and clarifies that though he could have, he decided not to go back and adjust his verse after K. Dot submitted his feature. The Detroit native also shares that he believes Hip Hop should be competitive and says that after hearing Kendrick’s verse he was never worried about any of the mentioned rappers in his verse becoming offended.
